Description: Sodium silicate is produced by fusing silica sand with soda ash at 1300-1400°C (solid) or dissolving the glass in steam/water (solution), serving as a versatile inorganic chemical with adhesive, binding, and deflocculating properties. The SiO₂:Na₂O ratio (1.6-3.3) determines its reactivity - lower ratios dissolve faster while higher ratios provide better thermal stability. Major applications include detergent formulations (30% of global use), foundry molds (binder), pulp/paper (peroxide stabilizer), and construction materials (concrete hardener).
