Description: Propanediol exists in two isomeric forms with distinct applications. 1,2-Propanediol (Propylene Glycol) is produced from petrochemical or bio-based glycerol, serving as a humectant in cosmetics (EU Ecolabel certified), food additive (E1520), and pharmaceutical solvent. 1,3-Propanediol is primarily bio-derived (corn sugar fermentation), used as a monomer for PTT polyester fibers (Sorona®) and high-performance lubricants. Both isomers exhibit low toxicity (LD50 >20g/kg) and excellent freeze-point depression.
